
Blue Grenadier
Macruronus novaezelandiaeSize: To 115 cm and about 6 kg (commonly 60 – 100 cm and averages 1 – 3.5 kg). Habitat: Adults are found on the upper continental slope, mainly at a depth between 200 – 700 m. Juveniles can be found in estuaries closer in to shore. Fishery: The largest catches of Blue Grenadier are made on the continental slope off Bass Straight and Tasmania. Remarks: The very soft flesh of Blue Grenadier has a short shelf life and should be handled with care. Domestic: Chilled and packed for transport in random weight bags or 15 kilo poly boxes. Frozen, layer packed in 10 kilo shatter pack cartons. Fish Cuts: Sold as skin on fillets.
